Online Data Entry: Scam or Opportunity

More and more people all over the world are deciding that they don't want to go to work anymore. It's not that they don't want to work…they just don't want to work for someone else. The fact is that anyone with a “Title” like Supervisor or Manager is eventually going to be influenced by that title…at some point they are going to treat those who work “beneath them” like they are actually beneath them.

I'm not trying to say that this is always the case. In fact I've had quite a few bosses and supervisors who treated me fairly and equally without ever acting like a dictator. However, as the world puts more and more faith into a system where our labels define us, these people are becoming vastly outnumbered by those who need to feel superior.

In an effort to be free from these invisible shackles and scorning remarks people have, once again, turned to the World Wide Web. Most people who jump on the internet looking for financial freedom find themselves immediately lured into one of the many “Millions in Minutes” programs. It's impossible to avoid these programs of course and, more often than not, the bright flashy picture of paychecks, cars, stacks of cash, and beautiful beaches are too much for us to ignore. After all, the title “wealthy” promises even more superiority over others than the title Supervisor. Unfortunately these programs rarely, if ever, make anyone wealthy (except the owner of the site, of course)

But what about those of us who don't want to get rich quickly?
What about those of us who simply want to do what we have always done…trade our time for a decent amount of income so that we can simply continue to live our lives?
Fear not, Data Entry Work has hit the Internet like a wave of hope.

Online Data Entry work is being advertised all over the internet. Everyday you'll find new “jobs” being offered to people who just want to process orders and get paid for it. At first these offers sound great. Just a little typing? Work at my own pace? Absolutely! And then the catch comes…there is a fee to start working.

Now, this is not something you'll ever find out in the world. If you apply for a job at McDonalds the owner isn't going to demand you pay $50 to start making $7/hour. It just doesn't work that way. So what gives?
Simple…”Online Data Entry Work” does not mean what we assume it means. The term itself has been redefined to mean “advertising”. That's it…simply advertising. I recently ran across one of these programs and this is what all the hype boils down to.

You are paying a fee for training material that will train you how to sell that SAME training material. Basically you pay your $50 and then advertise “Data Entry Jobs” online so that others will pay you another $50 for the material that you originally paid for. Sounds like a scam, doesn't it? But is it?

In my opinion a scam is a program that promises you millions for a small fee and then gives you absolutely nothing in return. These “Data Entry” programs DO pay…people ARE interested. It might not be an hourly wage, but then again neither is door-to-door sales. One way or another you still trade time for money. The difference here is that nobody gets a vacuum cleaner they didn't want and can't get rid of.

So what are we actually doing with these Data Entry Programs? Simple. We're passing money around the world to others (6 billion potential others). That's it. It's like taking 20 dollars and passing it to your neighbor Bill when you can spare it. Then your other neighbor Jim, wanting someone to pass him 20 dollars when he needs it, passes you 20 dollars when he can spare it. And so on and so forth. In reality, these programs are nothing more than a clever way to make people think they're working when all they're doing is sharing.

I would like to add that I do not believe any program should charge you $50 for training material. It makes very little sense for someone who needs work to pay out their last amount of grocery money in the hopes of making it back. However, I will admit that I see nothing wrong with $10 or $15. After all, most of us waste more than that on a pack of cigarettes or fast food. Why not pass it onto someone else? Perhaps someone will do the same for you.
